World Qualifying Berths for District 1

Want to sail in the 2104 Newport Worlds?

There are 4 ways to qualify in District 1 alone!
1) The District 1 Championships hosted by the Portsmouth Fleet and Kittery Point Yacht Club
2) The Downeast Regatta hosted by Fleet 43 and Portland Yacht Club
3) North Americans in Newport, RI (2 berths)
4) Northeast Regionals/East Coast Championships in Annapolis, MD (2 berths)

Remember if you don't plan to sail, there are opportunities to charter your boat and make some cash!

Fleets Met on the Slopes

On Ground Hogs Day and Super Bowl Weekend, members of three J24 fleets and two districts got together to hit the slopes. The idea was formulated during the Downeast Regatta last September and thanks to some dedicated folks, took place at Loon Mountain on February 2nd and 3rd.

Friday night sailors from Falmouth, Marion, and Newport enjoyed extra large burgers and beers at the Woodstock Station Brewery. While listening to some live music, some shied away from a hungry looking, under-stuffed bear. Saturday most hit the slopes at Loon Mountain, enjoying great lessons, first gondola rides, icy patches and snowy patches. Skiers and non-skiers met up at the Summit Cafe for a noon time snack. At the end of the day, many were ready to hit the pool or the pub to unwind. Saturday night, the Sudofsky family opened their home for a chili and pulled-pork potluck. It is safe to say, good times were had by all. Those who weren't too tired out hit the slopes for incredible conditions on Sunday.

We are hoping to make this an annual event and get more people involved. It was a great opportunity to get to know people that you only see during regattas, when we are usually distracted by sailing. Keep your eyes peeled for news on next year's event!
